DeafHear.ie ...Video Caption Reader

What is a Video Caption Reader?
A Video Reader is a box that is connected between your TV and video recorder and displays the closed captions (subtitles) that are found on many pre-recorded videos.

What are closed captions?
Closed captions are similar to television subtitles. The actors' words are displayed on the screen as the characters speak. The words appear at the bottom of the screen as white letters on a black background. They move from side to side to help the viewer to follow who is speaking. Captions also appear on the screen to tell you of song lyrics and sound effects e.g. a slamming door. Everyone rents or purchases the same video but only people using a caption decoder will be able to see the dialogue displayed on their screen. The Video Reader VR20 is a lead with an integrated caption decoder. The lead has a SCART plug at each end; one plugs into the SCART socket on your television and the other into the SCART socket on your video recorder. Just press the "captions" button on the front to see the words displayed on screen.
