Hearing & Communication Therapy
When a person experiences a loss of hearing either traumatically or over time, this is often accompanied by loss of confidence, social withdrawal, employment worries and difficulties communicating with family and work colleagues.
At this time, the DeafHear.ie Hearing and Communication Therapy Service can provide a range of supports and programmes to help overcome many of the issues and help build confidence and new communication skills.
One in seven people experience a hearing loss which moderately or severely impacts quality of life. The best support available to them is Aural Rehabilitation which is a holistic process involving hearing management, assistive technology, lip-reading classes, listening exercises and coping skills. Families also require information, advice and coping skills.
This DeafHear.ie service is staffed by professionally qualified Hearing and Communication Therapists who provide a range of individual and group supports including:
- Individual Assessment and Advice
- Hearing Help & Lip-reading classes in locations nationally
- Minor Hearing Aid Repairs
- Assertiveness & Coping Skills
- Family Information Evenings
- Counselling
- Tinnitus Support
The Service also organises:
- Residential Weekends for Hard of Hearing people and spouses/partners
- UCD Diploma in Aural Rehabilitation for aspiring communication & hearing therapists/lip-reading teachers
- Counselling & Tinnitus Support
