This conference is being organised and sponsored by the Catholic Institute for Deaf People (CIDP), DeafHear.ie, the Irish Deaf Society (IDS) and Centre for Deaf Studies (CDS).
The conference will feature the launch of a new Policy document developed by the above three organisations which sets out a new future for Deaf Education.
The conference will also feature a keynote presentation by Marc Marschark from the USA. Mark is regarded as one of the leading academic researchers on Deaf Education and is the author of the 2009 research advice paper on best practice in Deaf Education for the National Council for Special Education (NCSE).
There will also be presentations by experts from the education and medical professions as well as current teachers and parents of Deaf children who will reflect on their experiences of mainstream and Deaf schools. The presenters are both Deaf and hearing people. ISL interpreters will be present on the day.
