NAME CHANGE OF NATIONAL DEAF ORGANISATION
The National Association for Deaf People (NAD) today announced that it is changing its name to DeafHear.ie – Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People.
Explaining this name change, Niall Keane, Chief Executive of NAD, said “one in seven people in Ireland have a hearing loss, when NAD began 45 years ago, we primarily provided services to profoundly deaf people. Particularly in the last 10 years, NAD built up a range of community services nationally to support people who are hard of hearing and those with late onset deafness.
Feedback from our services users told us that our name did not reflect what we did.”
The re-branding was spearheaded by Graphic Designer Anton Mazer who has had a long involvement with the organisation. Mr Mazer said, “I am proud of the new image that has been designed. DeafHear.ie – Services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing People is a modern, clean and accurate brand name that is consistent with the dynamic, quality services provided”.
Referring to the new name, DeafHear.ie, Mr Keane said, “We endeavour to achieve an inclusive society where deaf and hard of hearing people enjoy full citizenship”.
