HSE Move on UNHS
On February 15th at the Joint Dail Committee on Health and Children the Chief Executive of the HSE Professor Brendan Drumm acknowledged that there was “a body of evidence” in support of implementing UNHS and that the HSE needed “to move” to put the service in place. Professor Drumm was responding to questions from Paudge Connolly TD. Senator Mary Henry also pointed out that we were “shamefully behind” the rest of Europe in implementing UNHS.

DeafHear.ie welcomes this announcement from the HSE and looks forward to UNHS being implemented as soon as possible. DeafHear.ie has been actively campaigning for UNHS for a number of years, and brought the issue to the attention of the Dail Committee last October. “After more than 5 years of waiting I welcome this decision, which will greatly improve the quality of life of our deaf children in the future” said DeafHear.ie Chairman Mr. Bernard Daly.

DeafHear.ie now looks forward to UNHS being implemented as soon as possible, with significant progress expected later in 2007.
