On Monday 21st June DeafHear.ie launched Ireland´s first Social Welfare Information Service available through Irish Sign Language (ISL): Called “Money Matters”, the service is available in sign language and text via DeafHear´s website at www.deafhear.ie. The initiative was part funded by a grant from the Department of Social Protection.

Welcoming this new enterprise DeafHear Chief Executive Niall Keane said “This online social welfare information in Irish Sign language will prove invaluable for deaf people. Understanding complex jargon can prove difficult for someone whose first language is ISL. Money Matters forms part of DeafHear´s strategy to make comprehensive and sometimes difficult information accessible to our deaf clients. I commend the Department of Social Protection for actively supporting this access initiative”.

Money Matters provides online Irish Sign Language (ISL) information on a number of common social welfare and HSE allowances relevant to the Deaf community. To connect to Money Matters go to www.deafhear.ie and click on the Money Matters logo.

This comprehensive online information service was developed by the staff of DeafHear who have an extensive knowledge and experience of supporting Deaf clients in accessing rights and entitlements.
