DeafHear.ie (formally the National Association for the Deaf) was established in 1964. It is a charitable not-for-profit organisation and is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. Below is an outline of the organisation's structure and a list of key contacts.

DeafHear Chairperson | Bernard Daly

Bernard is the father of an adult Deaf daughter.

He is a Chartered Accountant by profession with extensive work experience in financial services, both in the public and private sectors.
Bernard is currently President of FEPEDA, the European Association of Parents of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children.

He was a member of the Ministerial Review Group on the Education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing persons.

DeafHear Board Member | Bridie McNamee

Bridie MacNamee is the Vice Principal of St. Mary’s School for Deaf Girls in Cabra.
She brings a depth of knowledge of Deaf education to DeafHear. Bridie joined the Board in 2008.

DeafHear Board Member | Declan Keane

Declan Keane is the parent of a Deaf child and is on the Board of Management of St. Joseph’s School for Deaf Boys in Cabra. He is a chartered accountant and is a partner in KPMG.
Declan joined the Board of DeafHear in 2009.

DeafHear Board Member | Joan McCarville

Joan McCarville is profoundly Deaf and attended mainstream school.
She is a qualified Aural Rehabilitation tutor. Joan works in finance in FÁS.
She joined the Board of DeafHear in 2005.

DeafHear Board Member | Brian Symington MBE

Brian Symington has been at the forefront of service development for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people for more than 40 years.
Brian has held Senior Management positions in both the statutory and voluntary sectors and was Northern Ireland Director of RNID (Action on Hearing Loss) from 1991 – 2011.

Brian is on the Board of the European Society for Mental Health & Deafness and is currently working part-time with Jordanstown School for Deaf and Visually Impaired Children. He continues to advise government on public policy in Northern Ireland. He was awarded an MBE in 2002 for service to Deaf people. Brian joined the Board of DeafHear in October 2012.

DeafHear Board Member | Niall P. Glynn

Niall P. Glynn is a Specialist HR Business Consultant & Executive Coach with over 25 years experience in HR management and business solutions.

He graduated with a HR Management graduate and he also holds a Masters Degree in Executive Coaching. He is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development and a Fellow of the Institute of Bankers in Ireland.

In 2010, he set up Niall Glynn & Associates Limited to provide a HR Business Consultancy service delivering business solutions to small to medium sized companies.

Niall is a specialist advisor to the Irish Association of Pension Funds. He joined the Board of DeafHear in June 2012.

DeafHear Board Member | Dr. Paul Ryan

A Civil Servant with over 20 years experience in a variety of Departments, Dr. Paul Ryan currently works in the Department of Finance where he has responsibility for Corporate and Financial Affairs.
He also worked in the Department of Education & Science where he had experience of teacher training and professional development issues, including responsibility for training for Teachers of the Deaf and the Visiting Teachers Service.
Paul joined the Board of DeafHear in May 2010.

DeafHear Board Member | Sylvia Nolan

Sylvia Nolan is Director of Care for St. Mary’s Residence for Deaf Girls in Cabra, since 2003.
As Director, she manages the cost effective provision of high quality residential care for young Deaf girls, ensuring that the total environment contributes positively to the health, safety, welfare, positive growth and development of the boarders and helps each to achieve their full potential.
Sylvia is a past pupil of St. Mary’s and is fluent in ISL and is involved within the Deaf Community. Sylvia is a parent of a moderately Deaf child in mainstream school.
Sylvia is on the Board of DeafHear since May 2005.

Sandra has responsibility for administrative management of the national Mental Health & Deafness team.
